The vast majority of Android users don’t have Android 6.0 Marshmallow yet, but it’s still not to early to think about what new features Google will unveil next year with its next major Android release. Android Geeks this week has posted some rumors about what we can expect from Android 6.1, which it says will be released in June right around the time that Google shares more details about what will presumably be Android 7.0.
So what will Android 6.1 bring?
Android Geeks’ source is claiming it will bring support for split screens, which is something that’s been available on some Samsung tablets and on iPads with 2GB of RAM or more after the release of iOS 9. This will add support for split screens to all Android tablets, however, so it’s definitely something Android tablet owners will look forward to.
The other feature mentioned by Android Geeks’ source involves further improving Android’s approach to app permissions. Google first started giving users more granular control over app permissions with the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow but there’s apparently still more work to be done. The blog’s report doesn’t specify what form these improvements will take, so it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit to see exactly what Google has planned.
